Collaborative Research
ASP is a collaborative research enterprise among academics and graduate students in the Geology Department and microbiologists in the School of Biological Sciences. Its primary purpose is to characterize modern and ancient hot spring settings in terms of their mineralogy, ecology, paleoenvironments, geochemistry and microbiology. Current research is supported by the Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Fund (K.A. Campbell and P.R.L. Browne, PI’s; S. Turner, AI) to investigate biosignals and diagenesis of Miocene to Recent siliceous sinter in the North Island, New Zealand.
